Hobby sewer as I am, I did sew many years without it. But the serger is the base that you need to have especially if you like to sew with knits. When I finally buy one I use it for almost all my stuff that I make. The best machine ever and it is not important what brand you have, just the fact that you have it is enough. This is not a story how I dream of having it and what kind is better then other. It is just a simple and short story of how to finish the serger ends, or at least how I do them.
With the ordinary sewing this part is simple. All you need to do is go back and then sew a few stitches on the same place. Simple.
But what to do with serger ends? You can’t go back and when you start you already have some sort of loops of threads before you even start sewing. I did use two methods.
First is good if I use a polyester thread and if I could found the lighter and that is not simple because I don’t smoke and usually I forgot when I put it last time, so the magic think is never close to my hands. This is a little bit smelly methods but it worked, I just never know how good the end will be.
My new method is made with a crochet hook. It is not so slow as maybe looks like when you do the first time, it is more like therapeutic. Yes, you need to take a moment for closure all the seams. But if you know the right process of your work usually all the sewing’s have just a few closures that you need to do.
Enough of my blabbing just look the pictures and tell me how you make your serger endings. It’s never too soon to learn some more tricks.
